Some ideas for Fork Union |
|||
| Here are
some of the things we plan to do, in revitalizing the Village:
Cleanup, weeding and repair of existing sidewalks and rock walls on Rtes 6 and 15. Install roadside "Welcome to Fork Union" signs and landscaping at entrances to the central village. Install traditional streetlights. Working with property owners, we can: Landscape the strip of grass between the road and sidewalk down Route 15 Create a park area with plantings, benches and a play area. Cover up or repair vacant or decaying building façades and less-attractive public areas with paint, planters, and false or decorative fronts until renovation can take place through public-private partnerships. Improve shopping center parking lots on both sides of Route 15, including cleanup, resurfacing, landscaping. Enhance definition with paint, wooden fencing and seating. And we will: Sponsor events to foster community "ownership" of a vital Fork Union. Strengthen relationships among FUMA, community residents and businesses, and Fluvanna County. Encourage sprucing up of private homes and properties. Other more complex projects will follow as they can be funded and scheduled: Median islands with welcome signs and landscaping at north, south and west entrances to the central village. Median island with landscaping at intersection of Routes 6 and 15. Crosswalks throughout the village with landscape crossing islands: five on Route 15, two on Route 6, and one on Academy Road. Extend sidewalks throughout the central village. Begin a strategic plan; determine areas appropriate for development, encouraging concentrated development in the existing commercial areas to preserve a rural feel elsewhere. Establish parks and common areas. Actively promote new businesses in available spaces. Promote adequate cellular telephone coverage.
